Designing Your Spring Season with Intention

boundaries mindfulness self-care spring season time management Mar 31, 2025

Spring for me always marks a season of growth. I love looking at this season and thinking of ways I can shed the layers of what’s no longer serving me, like a heavy winter coat, and start planting seeds for nourishment and growth.

The Spring Awakening

I’ve noticed a pattern in my own life—every spring, I feel a pull to reset. It’s like nature itself is nudging me to pause, reflect, and make intentional shifts. I remember one particular spring when I felt completely drained. My schedule was packed, my energy was low, and self-care was barely on my radar. But instead of pushing through on autopilot, I decided to use spring as my reset button. I took stock of what was actually fueling me versus what was depleting me, cleaned up my schedule, and set small but powerful self-care habits in motion.

That shift made all the difference. Instead of feeling like I was constantly behind, I started feeling more in control, energized, and present. Now, every spring, I remind myself that I don’t have to wait until burnout hits—I can be proactive in creating the balance I crave.

The Foundation of Spring Transformation

Have you noticed how quickly those January resolutions fade away by the time spring arrives? By March, the gym membership card is gathering dust, and those healthy meal plans have been replaced by whatever is quickest after a long workday.

Here’s the truth that busy women need to hear: The problem isn’t your willpower—it’s that you’re pulled in so many directions that your own needs always fall to the bottom of the list. You’re not lacking discipline; you’re carrying too much guilt about prioritizing yourself. When everything feels urgent, it’s easy to put off your goals, telling yourself you’ll get to them ‘when there’s time’—but that time never comes unless you make space for it. What if we treated our well-being with the same urgency as our work meetings and family schedules?

Living by Default vs. Living by Design

Think about it: When was the last time you truly dreamed about what YOU want? Not what your boss expects, what your family needs, or what society tells you to want—but what lights YOU up inside?

Many of us have been living by default—letting external circumstances and others' expectations guide our path rather than intentionally designing our lives. Spring offers the perfect opportunity to break this pattern and start fresh.

Your Spring Desire List: 5 Minutes That Can Change Everything

This week, as the world around you renews itself, give yourself permission to renew your dreams:

  1. Set aside just 5-10 minutes a day. Yes, I know your calendar is packed—but this small investment can reshape your entire season.
  2. Ask yourself these questions:
  •    What do I want my energy levels to feel like this spring?
  •    How do I want my home environment to transform?
  •    What relationships need nurturing after the winter months?
  •    What personal growth seeds am I ready to plant?
  1. Silence those limiting beliefs. When thoughts like "I don't have time for this" or "I've failed at spring goals before" arise, gently set them aside. The changing season offers a fresh start.

Declutter Your Calendar

Once your desire list helps you identify what truly matters this season, it's time to make space for it:

  • Seasonal schedule audit: Review your calendar through the lens of your desire list. Does your time allocation reflect your true priorities?
  • Identify energy-draining commitments: Which meetings, activities, or obligations leave you depleted rather than fulfilled?
  • The power of strategic "no": Practice declining requests that don't align with your spring desires—without guilt.

Morning Rituals for Clarity

The early spring sunlight offers a perfect opportunity to clarify your desires and set daily intentions:

  • Harness early morning light: Spend just 2 minutes with your desire list as the sun rises.
  • 5-minute mindfulness: Connect with your breathing before connecting with emails.
  • Set intentions aligned with your desires: Choose one item from your list to focus on each day.

Self-Care Aligned with Spring

Self-care isn't another task on your to-do list—it's what enables everything else:

  • Simple seasonal self-care: Integrate desire-list moments into existing routines (like enjoying a favorite spring tea while reviewing work documents).
  • Outdoor micro-breaks: A 3-minute walk to notice budding trees can reset your mind and reconnect you to your growth desires.
  • Nutritional shifts: Choose seasonal foods that energize you for pursuing your desires.

Seed Planting for Major Goals

Your desire list reveals what you truly want—now it's time to transform those desires into achievable goals:

  • Break annual desires into season-sized chunks: What part of your desire can bloom specifically in spring?
  • The 1% improvement approach: Rather than overwhelming transformations, focus on tiny daily actions toward your desires.
  • Create momentum through "barely noticeable" actions: Start so small that failure becomes nearly impossible.

From Sprouts to Blooms: Tracking Progress

As you've worked to identify what you want your season to look like through your desire list:

  • Gentle accountability systems: Create weekly check-ins with yourself that feel supportive, not punitive.
  • Celebrate small wins: Notice and acknowledge every tiny green shoot of progress.
  • Use spring's visible growth as motivation: Let nature remind you that meaningful change happens gradually, then suddenly.

My Spring Vision: Intentional Growth

This spring, I’m shifting my mindset around calorie counting—not as a restriction, but as a tool for awareness. I want to fuel my busy days with intention instead of hitting that mid-afternoon crash. Pairing this with seasonal eating has already made a difference—I feel more energized, and I love how fresh spring produce satisfies me in ways convenience foods never could.

To make this sustainable, I’m leaning into cooking more. Sunday afternoons are becoming a reset ritual—a time to set myself up for success during hectic weekdays while also giving me a creative outlet that my busy schedule often lacks.

Walking has become my built-in thinking time—a way to clear my mind while moving my body. By scheduling three 30-minute walks a week (and treating them as non-negotiable as work meetings), I create natural transitions between tasks and reconnect with the season.

When it comes to blogging, my focus is shifting from personal documentation to deeper connection. This season, I’m creating content that speaks directly to the challenges I hear from busy women in my community—the struggles, the wins, and the small shifts that make a big impact.

Building a brand feels a lot like tending a garden—consistent care matters more than overnight results. Instead of spreading myself thin across every platform, I’m focusing on three core brand elements that align with my values and create real impact.

Growing my online community has shown me that connection matters more than numbers. This spring, success isn’t about follower count—it’s about engagement, real conversations, and hearing how women are implementing these changes in their own lives.

What excites me most is how all of these pieces work together—seasonal eating fuels my energy, which helps my creativity flow, while my community keeps me accountable to the habits I’m building. Everything is connected, and this spring, I’m choosing to grow with intention, not just keep busy.

What will be on your spring desire list?

With love,

Erin
